Term 2 Novel Study

Image
This term I have been reading and studying the novel Run by Linda Aksomitis I found this novel interesting because of all the different thing happening in it at one time it makes me want to read more. During the novel I had to complete a thinking map which shows that I can classify how the author has shown the theme of the book. National Standard this covers Year 7/8  Standard I can identify and evaluate the way writers’ use language and ideas to suit their purpose and I can use my growing wide range of academic and content-specific vocabulary to understand texts. Overall I would give this novel a rating of  10/10 and I would recommend it to others to read because I is a great book to read if you like to learn about polio and because It make you want to read on and on.

The best book that I read last term was username regenerated. This book involves the characters Evie, her dad and her mum. The story is about a portal to a new place that Evies dad created for Evie to go when she feels stressed but in the making there was a malfunction and Evies mum got stuck there now Evie has to go on a mission into this world to retrieve her mum but she may face some difficult challenges along the way. I recommend this book if you like adventures and fantasy books.

Two golden retrievers I know a dog called Max and a dog called Jenna the two are quite alike. They are both brother and sister that love to go for a great long hike. They play fetch during the day cuddle at night If you ever meet these dogs you will find them a delight. The second task that I want to show you is: Take an interesting photo of and animal you know. Here is a picture of my cat Felix.

My science badge so far, Here is a few things That I have made and done so far to work towards getting my science badge.     You had to write a poem abot a pet you  own. Poem about my cat Petal I have a pet feline, who I find quite divine I fed her I hug her and what does she give me, A loud meow in the morning as her hungry plea. Her energy levels are high, when she runs its like she can fly. Petal is so sweet, to have her it is a treat. Another one of the tasks was to write a short peice of text about a story you have heard involving farm animals. Battery Chickens There has been a lot of concern about the health and safety of the chickens being farmed today. This is bad for the chickens heath as they have no room to move about And they are treated poorly.

Leadership-showing leadership in the holidays-Excellence post #9

A two more ways I have shown leadership these holidays. The first way I have showed leadership is by helping a boy at skiing by helping he get up again when he fell over. The second way that I have shown leadership is also at skiing was working hard towards my goal of not falling over at all. This is a hard goal to achieve because skiing involves a lot of balance and focus but I was able to to this goal only falling over once. I have shown community by helping out in the community and being a good role model, I have also shown Goal focused by working hard towards my goal at skiing and then reaching my goal.

I have shown the leadership trait integrity by being honest and giving back the money to her I also showed Respect by doing whats right and by make my dad happy by doing the chores.

Apply simple linear proportions, including ordering fractions

I can apply the strategy to problem solving questions Please complete these two problems. You will need to explain how you got the answer. Question 1 In our household, there are twice as many cats as humans, with sixty legs in total. How many cats are there to be fed? A:12 (first I figgered out how many cat there were (15) then I used this information to figure out how many humans there were to equal half the cats.) Question 2 Three men run a business together. The proportion of the profit they each get at the end of the month is based on the proportion of the funds they have invested in the business. The April profit is shared out so that All gets one third, Bob gets one half and Chuck gets one sixth. In May, Des joins the group, investing half as much as Bob invested. What share of the profit can Des expect to get? A: des gets ¼ (because if he gets half of what bob has bob has ½ and I know that half of ½ is ¼.)

Arts drama

In ARTS this term we have been learning to: make a silent production on the theme of a chase. Here is a link to our online modelling book. During this unit of learning we: Described the characteristics of silent performances. Identified different techniques used in silent performances. Used these techniques in a variety of different practice situations. Worked in a small group to put together our own silent performance. The most challenging part of this unit of learning was coming up with an idea because our group wanted to come up with a great one. The two things that I enjoyed the most were: Practising. Learning about the characteristics. The story that my group told silently was a race where the start flag got stolen so it turned into a chase and we had to include a fake kick, face slap, shaking fist, a pointing finger and some mime. Overall I think my group worked well because we came up with a great idear and we enjoyed ourselve

Current Events Term 2, 2017 WALT: I can successfully research a current event. Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning. The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is: Year7/8: I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes. Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out. Here is some evidence of my learning. Describe Map One Describe map Two My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

On Friday we went to our last Te Hapua I was in coding and we made a game where we had to program this fish to swim around and eat up these other little fish while at the same time trying to get away from the shark I found this a bit challenging but I was able to get it in the end. Last Wednesday at drama our groups had to practise for this week because we a filming a silent film I am really excited drama is a subject and very enjoyable but also a bit hard at times. I showed active thinking by think my way out of the problem, the problem being to try and figure out the code program at Te Hapua but i eventually got it, I also showed resilience by making a come back after i had a bit of trouble.
